GC AI vs Ivo: Contract Review, or the Whole In-House Day?

Ivo is built around the contract. GC AI is built around the lawyer who owns everything else too.

Both serve in-house teams. Only one covers the whole desk.

Ivo is a strong contract platform for enterprises with high commercial-contract throughput. The question for your team is how much of the week lives inside a contract, and what covers the rest.

What is GC AI?

Legal AI built for the full in-house workload

Contract review and redlining, legal research with primary-law citations, regulatory monitoring, employment questions, privacy work, and the board memo due Thursday. One platform, one seat price.

Ivo: Contract review, contract repository analysis, and contract-focused assistance. Built around the contract lifecycle.

Why does scope matter?

The in-house day runs past the contract

The same week you redline a vendor MSA, an employee raises a classification question, a state privacy law shifts, and the board asks about data-retention exposure. None of that lives in a contract.

Ivo: Ivo Assistant runs research with verified sources alongside contract work. Confirm how far that reaches beyond the contract library.

What can you do today?

Start on your own documents, on your own terms

$500 per seat per month, published. 14-day free trial, no credit card, no sales call. Load your contracts and run your own research questions before any purchase conversation.

Ivo: No published pricing as of July 2026. Access begins with a demo request and no self-serve trial is offered.

Compare GC AI vs Ivo

Both platforms redline contracts inside Microsoft Word and both serve in-house legal teams. The difference is how much of the in-house workload each one was designed to carry, and how much you can verify before you buy.

Playbooks turn your contract standards into workflows

Upload your standard NDA, define your positions, and GC AI reviews every incoming agreement against them. Your Playbook flags the issues that matter to your business, not a generic checklist. Your judgment, encoded once and applied across every contract.

At the 2026 GC AI Summit, Taylor Robertson ran GC AI's SaaS MSA Playbook against a live $1M Atlassian agreement. In one click it flagged standard deviations and a unilateral modification clause outside the playbook's rules, showing it catches more than a checklist.

Ivo Review benchmarks redlines against your previously negotiated agreements, which is genuinely useful if you have papered the same vendor MSA forty times. Both approaches encode your positions. GC AI's runs alongside the research, employment, and privacy work in the same platform.

GC AI Research returning primary law with citations

Research reaches past the contract library

In-house research rarely stops at what your own contracts say. A new state privacy law, a wage-and-hour question, a regulatory filing deadline: those answers live in primary law, not in your repository.

GC AI Research runs multi-agent searches across authoritative legal databases and government sources and returns current case law, statutes, and regulations with citations you can click through.

Ivo Assistant runs research with verified sources as part of its contract-focused suite. If your research routinely spans multi-jurisdiction regulatory tracking, ask each vendor to show that workflow on a question from your own docket.

GC AI Exact Quote showing character-level citation linked to the source document

Every citation lands on the exact words

You are the final reviewer. No associate checks your work before it reaches the VP of Sales or the CEO, so every statement you forward has to be traceable in seconds.

Exact Quote gives you character-level citation. Every output links to the precise text in the source document, beyond a page number or a paragraph summary. Click the citation, see the source, verify, send.

Customers reported a 21% accuracy advantage over generalist AI. That margin matters when your name is on the memo.

GC AI for Word redlining a contract inside Microsoft Word

The whole platform runs inside Microsoft Word

GC AI for Word includes Chat2, saved prompts, Easy Prompt, and Projects. Pull primary law into a redline with Chat2. Run a Playbook against an incoming NDA. Carry matter memory from last week's draft into this week's negotiation. All inside the document.

What you start in the web workspace pulls into Word with one click, and the two stay synced.

Ivo runs redlining in both Microsoft Word and Google Docs, which is the better fit if a meaningful share of your paper lives in Google Docs. If your team drafts in Word, GC AI runs the full workload there without a context switch.

The GC AI workspace during a 14-day free trial

You can price it, trial it, and decide without a sales call

GC AI publishes $500 per seat per month, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card required. You can budget the line item before the first conversation and test the platform on your own contracts and your own research questions before anything is signed.

Ivo does not publish pricing as of July 2026, and access begins with a demo request rather than a self-serve trial.

If your procurement process needs a number before approval, ask for it early. Per the ACC 2024 Law Department Management Benchmarking Report, outside counsel is roughly 48% of total legal spend, so any platform promising to reduce that dependency should be able to say what it costs.

We teach the lawyers doing the work right now

Buying a platform is the easy part. Getting a department to use it consistently is where the value compounds.

GC AI Classes are free and CLE-certified (California), taught by former general counsels, and cover prompt engineering for legal work, AI-assisted contract review, and building internal AI adoption playbooks. More than 6,000 legal professionals have completed them.

If you are evaluating any legal AI platform, ask what onboarding and education comes with it beyond product documentation.

The GC AI Word plugin has transformed my legal workflow, allowing me to draft and review documents in a fraction of the time it used to take. What used to be hours of tedious contract review now takes minutes, with the AI instantly flagging potential issues and suggesting precise language improvements that align with our company standards and preferences. The seamless integration with Word means I can leverage powerful legal AI without disrupting my existing workflow, making it an indispensable tool for our legal team.

GC AI's Word Add-in is in a class of its own compared to other legal AI tools I have evaluated. Its ability to produce a first-pass redline of an agreement against our own templates has significantly reduced the time required to review non-standard contracts. Furthermore, GC AI's capacity to suggest market-standard compromises and provide clear, concise explanations for edits accelerates negotiations and fosters a more collaborative process between parties.

GC AI for Word has become an integral part of my workflow. Its integration into the online portal ensures seamless communication between the two platforms and helps ensure we're communicating with all stakeholders accurately and efficiently. Most importantly, I appreciate that GC AI continues to listen to their users and improves the software continuously.

Today's victory: my board chair asked me a long time ago for an index of all board resolutions. I can only use the word “collaborate” to describe how I first worked out with GC AI how we were going to do this. I was also mindful of the possibility that GC AI might not be able to remember all of the content since I had about 50 PDF docs to summarize and put into a table. We first worked out what the table would look like, then I uploaded each one and it produced the output in table format for that one doc. And asked me for the next doc. After I uploaded about 10 docs one by one, I asked it to consolidate all the entries into a single table and put it in reverse chron order. It did. I praised it and then fed the rest of the docs one by one. At the end, it produced a consolidated table without any problem. And it asked me if I wanted it to do any more analysis on the data. I'm honestly stunned at how well this worked out. And I also feel like maybe GC AI is turning the tables by giving me positive reinforcement for the approach. That's fine. I welcome the robot army if they will do tasks like this.

As a fractional general counsel for two fast growing technology companies, GC AI for Word has transformed how I handle legal document review and drafting. The integration is seamless, the AI suggestions are remarkably accurate for legal context, and it saves me hours each week. The beta testing experience showed a team that truly listens to user feedback. This tool understands legal nuance in ways other AI tools simply don't. Highly recommended for any legal professional working in Word.

The GC AI for Word plugin has gone from a curiosity to an essential component of my workflow for contract reviews. The product team has been very responsive as we've identified new issues and proactive about adding new capabilities. It doesn't replace the need to think critically about every redline, but it cuts down dramatically on the time you need to spend on the easy stuff so you can focus on the issues that truly need your attention.

GC AI for Word is an invaluable multi-purpose legal assistant. It streamlines document management by identifying missing or duplicated clauses while also handling complex document review with precision. The tool excels at flagging potential regulatory issues and enforcement risks, then provides targeted language to mitigate these concerns. As a legal professional, I rely on this tool daily for efficient document drafting and comprehensive review processes.

Common questions

What Is Ivo Legal AI?
Ivo is an AI contract intelligence platform for in-house legal teams, founded by Min-Kyu Jung and Jacob Duligall and headquartered in San Francisco. It ships three products: Ivo Review (playbook-based AI redlining in Microsoft Word and Google Docs), Ivo Intelligence (an AI-native contract repository that maps amendments, restatements, and superseding agreements without manual tagging), and Ivo Assistant (agentic drafting, redlining, cross-contract question answering, and research with verified sources).
How Much Does Ivo Cost Compared To GC AI?
Ivo does not publish pricing as of July 2026. Access begins with a demo request and the cost is quoted during an enterprise sales process, with no self-serve free trial. GC AI publishes $500 per seat per month with a 14-day free trial and no credit card required.
Does Ivo Work With Google Docs?
Yes. Ivo runs redlining in both Microsoft Word and Google Docs, so teams can work in either editor. GC AI runs in Microsoft Word through GC AI for Word, alongside a synced web workspace. If a meaningful share of your contracts live in Google Docs, that is a real point in Ivo's favor and worth testing in a demo.
Is GC AI Or Ivo Better For Contract Review?
Both platforms review contracts against your standards. Ivo Review benchmarks redlines against your previously negotiated agreements and proposes edits in Word or Google Docs. GC AI Playbooks ship pre-built for NDAs, DPAs, SaaS MSAs, and commercial MSAs and are extensible with your own positions, with Exact Quote returning character-level citations on every finding. The better fit depends on whether you want redlines benchmarked against your prior deal history or contract review that sits inside a platform covering research, employment, privacy, and board work as well.
Can GC AI Do Legal Research?
Yes. GC AI Research runs multi-agent searches across authoritative legal databases and government sources, returning current case law, statutes, and regulations with citations. Ivo Assistant also runs research with verified sources as part of its contract-focused suite; in-house teams whose research spans multi-jurisdiction regulatory tracking should test both on a live question from their own docket.
Is GC AI Secure Enough For My Legal Team?
GC AI maintains zero data retention agreements with OpenAI and Anthropic, so prompts and documents are never stored by model providers or used for training. GC AI is SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 certified, GDPR compliant, and AES-256 encrypted. Ivo publishes SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR, and CCPA compliance and states that customer data is not used for AI model training. Every GC AI claim can be verified at trust.gc.ai.
